About SO WOOD

So WOOD is the artisanal department of Gravotech Engraving Sàrl, a 30-year-old engraving workshop specializing in high-end mechanical and laser engraving located in Porrentruy in the canton of Jura-Switzerland.

With our laser machines dedicated to wood and its derivatives, we imagined “SO WOOD“

SO WOOD by gravotech therefore!

To clearly differentiate our two departments so different and thus make accessible and more easily to all our know-how with our pretty creations in wood and its derivatives, in an eco-responsible, local and Swiss made approach.

Far from the big online factories, our workshop dedicated to wood now completely fills the 2nd floor! It takes space… storage of panels, various machines, lacquering corner, sanding, packaging, and photo corner to put our creations online.

Creations imagined with passion!

From idea to creation, it's a whole process that requires a lot of time for any new project.

Sketches, programming, tests, search for parameters on the laser and finally…make pretty photos and composition of the text for the creation of a new article.

The originality of our creations lies in the harmony that is created between the design and the careful selection of the different quality wood species.

A fair balance that makes all the difference!

Quality, fair price

We strive to calculate our prices as fairly as possible. For us, the quality of the products we offer to our customers is essential.

For this reason, we will never compromise on the provenance and quality of our materials. Being a small workshop in Switzerland, we are subject to Swiss tariffs on our supplies and charges, and can never have the same tariffs as our European neighbors.

Consume local and eco-responsible, it may be a little more expensive than ordering on the big sites…. but it is also allowing us small local traders and craftsmen to continue to live from our know-how, to be close to you.

Our materials, selected with the greatest care

Veneer wood is a quality wood, taken from the trunk of the tree and cut into very thin sheets. The thickness of a veneer sheet is between 0.5 and 2 millimeters.

Once cut into thin sheets, the wood is glued to a suitable support (poplar, MDF or paper)

Veneered wood is a material of choice if you want to combine creativity and quality. It is indeed a true natural product, to which a specific method of manufacture confers unique advantages. Ordinary solid wood can warp with moisture. The use of tackle reduces this risk.

The use of wood veneer preserves the environment. Cutting the tree trunk into thin sheets allows you to do more with much less material.

Our plating is made in the region

After much research, we finally found a regional company specializing in this technique. It is with great pride that we can offer 100% Jura Swiss made with most of our creations in noble essences, from 4mm thick.

For very thin thicknesses and for flexible birch, it is to Finland and Austria that we order our panels, the specialists! FSC and PEFC certified

The wood veneer is and remains real wood and each panel is unique!
