About SO WOOD
So WOOD is the artisanal department of Gravotech Engraving Sàrl, a thirty-year-old engraving workshop specializing in high-end mechanical and laser engraving located in Porrentruy in the canton of Jura-Switzerland.
With our laser machines dedicated to wood and its derivatives, we have imagined “SO WOOD”
SO as in Sophie (that's me) and wood – the wood in English!!! which I love….

To clearly differentiate our two very different departments and thus make our know-how more easily accessible to all with our beautiful creations in wood and its derivatives, in an eco-responsible, local and Swiss made approach.
Far from the large online factories, our woodworking workshop now completely fills the 2nd floor! We need a lot of space… storage for panels, various machines, a lacquering area, sanding, packaging, and a photo area to put our creations online.

From idea to creation, it's a whole process that requires a lot of time for any new project.
Sketching, programming, testing, searching for parameters on the laser and finally…taking pretty pictures and composing the text for the creation of a new article.
The originality of our creations lies in the harmony that is created between the design and the meticulous selection of different types of quality wood.
A perfect balance that makes all the difference!
Quality at a fair price
We strive to calculate our prices as fairly as possible. For us, the quality of the products we offer our customers is paramount.
For this reason, we will never compromise on the origin and quality of our materials. As a small workshop in Switzerland, we are subject to Swiss tariffs on our supplies and overhead costs, and can never offer the same prices as our European neighbors.

Buying local and eco-responsible products may be a little more expensive than ordering from large websites… but it also allows us, small local businesses and artisans, to continue to make a living from our expertise and to stay close to you.
It's a whole philosophy, but it brings only happiness and passion to our work.
Our materials, selected with the utmost care
Veneer is a high-quality wood, taken from the tree trunk and cut into very thin sheets. The thickness of a veneer sheet is between 0.5 and 2 millimeters.
Once cut into thin sheets, the wood is glued onto a suitable backing (poplar, MDF or paper)
Veneered wood is an ideal material for combining creativity and quality. It is a truly natural product, and its specific manufacturing process gives it unique advantages. Ordinary solid wood can warp under the influence of moisture. Using veneer reduces this risk.
Using wood veneer is environmentally friendly. Cutting the tree trunk into thin sheets allows you to do more with much less material.
